Mavis Staples Performs on ‘The Late Show’

Legendary vocalist Mavis Staples was the musical guest on last night’s episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. Staples was supported by Jeff Tweedy, Jon Batiste and others on a rendition of a song from her upcoming album If All I Was Was Black.

Tweedy produced If All I Was Was Black, which comes out on November 17 and marks the third album the Wilco frontman has worked on with Staples. He previously produced 2013’s One True Vine and 2010’s You Are Not Alone.

Tuesday’s Late Show saw Batiste, who front’s the show’s house band, playing piano alongside Tweedy playing guitar as Staples sang “Build A Bridge.” The song is one of 10 written by Tweedy for If All I Was Was Black, watch the performance below:
