Mavis Staples Documentary ‘Mavis!’ Trailer

On Monday, February 29 HBO will premiere the documentary film Mavis! about legendary vocalist Mavis Staples. The film will debut soon after the release of a new Staples studio album, Livin’ On A High Note which comes out on ANTI- Records on Friday, February 19.

The film examines Mavis’ life including her time performing with her family in The Staples Sings, her Civil Rights activism and her solo career which continues to flourish. Directed by Jessica Edwards, Mavis! features Jeff Tweedy, Prince, Levon Helm, Mary Stuart, Sharon Jones, Steve Cropper and more.

Today, a new trailer for Mavis! has been shared with cameos from Bob Dylan, Bonnie Raitt, Chuck D and others. Watch:
