Mastodon Launches New Era With ‘Marrow Deep’ & Share Josh Homme-Assisted Single

Mastodon announced their new album, Marrow Deep, will arrive August 28 via Loma Vista Recordings. The Atlanta-based metal band previewed the 12-song collection with “Snakes For Dinner,” a single recorded in collaboration with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme.

Marrow Deep marks a lot of firsts for Mastodon. The LP is the band’s first since the tragic death of guitarist Brent Hinds last August. It’s also Mastodon’s first new record in five years and first to feature guitarist Nick Johnston alongside contributions from recently installed keyboardist João Nogueira.

Mastodon tracked the follow-up to 2021’s Hushed and Grim at their West End Sound facility in Atlanta with co-producers Patrik Berger (Lana Del Rey, Charli XCX) and Kurt Ballou (HIGH ON FIRE, CONVERGE). A roster of special guests, outside Josh Homme, will be revealed soon.

Founding members Brann Dailor, Troy Sanders and Bill Kelliher were inspired by the three Fates of Greek mythology on an album that finds them “emerging from years of personal upheaval with a renewed sense of purpose and reinvigorated drive.”

The news of the album and single follow less than a week behind the release of The Mastodon in the room, a short film reflecting on the band’s relationship with Brent Hinds. The guitarist parted ways with Mastodon just five months before he died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.

Hard-hitting epic “Snakes For Dinner” features Josh Homme’s first appearance on a Mastodon track since he contributed to Blood Mountain’s “Colony Of Birchmen” in 2006. The new single arrived along with a video.
