Marty Stuart Covers Tom Petty’s ‘Runnin’ Down A Dream’

Country musician Marty Stuart enlisted guitarist Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers to produce his just-released new album Way Out West. A recent Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives show featured a performance of Petty’s classic “Runnin’ Down A Dream.”

As Rolling Stone points out, Stuart and Campbell met in 1995 while working on Johnny Cash’s album Unchained. “When I met [Campbell], he was a quiet guy, but every time he spoke, it mattered,” said Stuart. “And every time he picked up his guitar, it mattered, too.”

Back on April 11, Marty Stuart & His Fabulous Superlatives held a concert at the Fine Line in Minneapolis. The show featured their arrangement of “Runnin’ Down A Dream,” which has been a staple of Stuart’s live repertoire for years.
