One day before the 40th anniversary of its June 3, 1977 release, UMe will reissue the landmark Bob Marley & The Wailers album Exodus. Coming in a series of four separate reissues, three of the upcoming editions of the group’s ninth studio album will feature Exodus 40 – The Movement Continues, a newly created “restatement” of the LP led by Ziggy Marley.
Recorded in London after Bob Marley survived an assassination attempt in Jamaica in December 1976, Exodus saw Marley backed by Julian “Junior Marvin” on guitar, Carlton Barrett on drums, Aston “Family Man” Barrett on bass, Tyrone Downie on keyboards, Alvin “Seeco” Patterson on percussion and The I Threes: Judy Mowatt, Marcia Griffiths and Rita Marley on backing vocals. The record showcased such beloved Marley classics as “Three Little Birds,” “One Love / People Get Ready,” “Jamming,” “Natural Mystic” and the title track.
The remastered Exodus 40 – The Movement Continues project produced by Bob’s son Ziggy utilized, “the original session recordings, uncovering unused and never-before-heard vocals, lyric phrasing and instrumentation, [while] incorporating and transforming these various elements into brand-new session takes.” Ziggy reworked “One Love” from 10 recently uncovered lead vocal outtakes and brought in a new band to record an R&B-styled instrumental track for “Turn Your Lights Down Low.”
The Exodus 40th anniversary reissue formats are as follows:
