Margo Price Welcomes Sturgill Simpson & Lukas Nelson At The Ryman

Margo Price got to check a career milestone off of her personal bucket list on Saturday night as she played the first of three sold-out headlining shows at legendary Ryman Auditorium in her adopted hometown of Nashville. The country singer, who had been teasing on social media that she would be joined by special guests throughout the run, didn’t disappoint as she invited out both Sturgill Simpson and Lukas Nelson to join her as a duet partner.

Price, who recently netted Americana Honors & Awards nominations for Artist, Album and Song Of The Year, delivered a career-spanning show at the 2,362-seat capacity venue. The critically-acclaimed singer-songwriter worked her way through selections from her 2016 debut Midwest Farmer’s Daughter and last year’s more socio-political All American Made which included takes on “Weekender,” “Cocaine Cowboys,” “Hurtin’ (On The Bottle)” and “Tennessee Song.”

Early in the show, Price brought out her first guest of the night as Lukas Nelson took to the stage to help out on “Learning To Lose.” The studio version of the song features another Nelson trading verses with Price – Lukas’s dad Willie. Towards the back half of the evening, Sturgill Simpson emerged. Simpson, who also sat in with opening act Tyler Childers, teamed up with Price for a classic country duet. The pair offered up a take on “After The Fire Is Gone” from Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty’s 1971 release We Only Make Believe. Price also nodded to another one of her musical heroes as she delivered a cover of Dolly Parton’s “9 To 5” from the iconic country star’s 1980 album 9 to 5 & Odd Jobs during her encore.
