Marcus King appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday. The guitarist played piano and the six-string for the debut televised performance of “Delilah,” a track set for his upcoming Rick Rubin-produced album, Mood Swings.
Marcus King detailed Mood Swings, an album due out on April 5 via American/Republic Records, last month. The record saw King working with legendary producer Rick Rubin for the first time.
“I love the way listening to this album makes me feel,” Rubin said of Mood Swings. “I can’t think of another project quite like this one. Marcus’s playing and singing are from another planet.”

Mood Swings finds Marcus addressing his mental health. Rubin aided in that endeavor as well.
“He helped me view mental health as a writing partner in a way,” King stated. “I’ve learned it can give me that creative spark.”
King used that spark to craft “Delilah,” “it’s a coming-of-age tale about learning how to love and how to allow yourself to stay still long enough to be loved,” King said of the track.
An unreleased cut from the album available exclusively via The Tonight Show until the album is out, the “Delilah” performance saw King playing piano for the first time on television. After beginning the song on piano, the talented guitarist also picked up his axe for a smoking solo.
