Madison Cunningham previewed her forthcoming album Ace with the single “Wake” featuring Fleet Foxes Robin Pecknold. Cunningham also confirmed 2026 Tour dates supporting the album, set to arrive on October 10.
Cunningham co-produced Ace with Robbie Lackritz. The 14-track album, her third for Verve Forecast, follows her 2022 album, Reveler. Last year, Cunningham and Andrew Bird teamed up for Cunningham Bird, a covers album reimagining Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham’s 1973 debut LP.
“One of my favorite moments on the record, sung with one of my heroes,” Cunningham said of the Ace Pecknold collab. “I still get choked up hearing that classic voice on this song.”
The singer-songwriter further provided insight into the track, stating:
“We come to one of my favorite songs on the record. Written last January while making the best of a Nashville blizzard. ‘Wake’ came as a result of a new tuning I was trying out, that moments before it started working under my fingers made me want to quit altogether.
“Before recording this song, in my mind it was an apparent duet, since narratively, it’s two people talking at each other trying to come to an understanding. Robin of [Fleet Foxes] was the first voice I thought of. No one else in the world sounds like him. It holds all of the heartbreak and hope we all know and want to know. I’ll never forget how he walked into the studio more prepared than I’ve seen anyone and it blew my mind.
“Also an absolutely masterful upright bass take from [Daniel Rhine]. I hope you enjoy this tune with some headphones today.”
