The 2025 Bourbon & Beyond festival got underway in Louisville on Thursday with The Lumineers filling the opening day headliner slot. The band brought out an unexpected special guest in the form of guitarist Derek Trucks, who sat in on a Bob Dylan Cover.
The Lumineers are in the midst of a lengthy tour in support of their fifth album, Automatic. The group piloted by guitarist/vocalist Wesley Schultz and multi-instrumentalist Jeremiah Fraites began their Bourbon & Beyond headlining set with the album’s lead track, “Same Old Song.” The band played additional Automatic songs, “Asshole” and “You’re All I Got,” alongside selections from their other releases.
Deep into their set, The Lumineers summoned Derek Trucks to add his signature slide guitar to a cover of Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues.” The song from Dylan’s 1969 album, Bringing It All Back Home has been performed by The Lumineers numerous times over their live performance career. The group recorded a version of “Subterranean Homesick Blues” with Andrew-Bird for Ken Burns’ 2017 Vietnam War documentary film.
Trucks was coming off a five-show co-headline run with Tedeschi Trucks Band and Gov’t Mule. TTB kicks off a two-show run with Steve Winwood tonight in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
