Lukas Nelson shared a moving new song as the ongoing tragedy in Israel and Gaza continues to unfold. Nelson posted a video of “Broken As It Was” to his YouTube channel.
As Democracy Now! reported this morning: “In Israel, the death toll from Hamas’s surprise assault has climbed to 1,300, with 3,300 Israelis injured. An estimated 150 Israelis are being held by Hamas as hostages” while “Gaza’s Ministry of Health says Israel’s attacks have killed more than 1,350 Palestinians and wounded more than 6,000. More than 320 children are among the dead.”
In his words accompanying the video for “Broken As It Was,” Lukas Nelson wrote, “Suffering is universal, and the killing of innocents is never justified.” Read the full note below:
This is a song I wrote about empathy in the wake of this recent tragedy. That feeling of helplessness as we watch and pray with broken hearts. Suffering is universal, and the killing of innocents is never justified. It is unbearably sad how many innocent people on this planet been made to suffer for the evil of others.
