Gov’t Mule continued their run through the upper part of the United States on Sunday night by pulling into Idaho for a gig at the Sun Valley Pavilion. The jam titans delivered a one-set show that saw them team up Lukas Nelson for a pair of classic rock covers during their encore.

Warren Haynes & Co. got their evening in the Gem State going with “Traveling Tune” from Revolution Come…Revolution Go. The band would reach for the old-school “Thorazine Shuffle” before offering up a pair of songs from their early 2000’s output with “Banks Of The Deep End” and “Time To Confess.” The Southern rock and blues act would go on to showcase fours tunes in a row from their most recent studio album next delivering takes on “Stone Cold Rage” and “Sarah, Surrender” along with the record’s title track and the outtake “Girl With No Self-Esteem.”

“Kind Of Bird” from Haynes’ days in the Allman Brothers Band and Little Willie John’s “Need Your Love So Bad” followed. The quartet next weaved their way in and out of “Mule” as they worked in takes on Van Morrison’s “I’ve Been Working” from the Irish singer-songwriter’s 1970 album His Band and the Street Choir and Bo Diddley’s “Who Do You Love?” before finishing off the tune. Longtime fan-favorite “Soulshine” featured the band delivering another Morrison song in its midst as they looked to “Tupelo Honey.” Mule closed out their lone set the way they got it started with “Traveling Tune.”

When Gov’t Mule returned for their encore they were joined by Lukas Nelson, whose band Promise Of The Real had opened the night. The augmented ensemble served up “Almost Cut My Hair” from Crosby, Stills & Nash’s 1970 release Déjà Vu first. POTR’s bass player Corey McCormick emerged next taking over for Jorgen Carlsson as they offered up a take on the Neil Young jam-vehicle “Cowgirl In The Sand” bring their night to an end.
