Lotus brought their winter tour to MegaCorp Pavilion in Newport, Kentucky just across the Ohio river from Cincinnati on Wednesday. The jamtronica act unveiled a song, “Golden Hour Light,” from bassist Jesse Miller’s side project Beeswax.

Beeswax is a Philadelphia-based collaborative project which also includes Wax Future’s Connor Hansell and Keith Wadsworth. The group released their album Royal Jelly in 2021. “Golden Hour Light” is the closing track on the LP.

The “Golden Hour Light” performance arrived toward the end of the first set. The song, written by Jesse Miller and Wax Future, paints a shimmering soundscape textured with synth from Jesse’s brother Luke Miller. “Golden Hour Light” was anchored by drummer Mike Greenfield’s groove laced with a hooky guitar line from Tim Palmieri, who also blasted off toward the end of the song.

Lotus kicked off the concert with “Catacombs” off their 2020 album Free Swim. The band then linked up “Middle Road” with a cover of the BeeGees’ “You Should Be Dancing.” The first frame wrapped with “Bush Pilot” off Lotus’ 2011 self-titled LP.

“Behind Midwest Storefronts” launched set two. The band then went seamless for the rest of the frame including a cover of Justice’s “Generator” and “Reed” from Lotus’ latest studio album, How to Dream in Color. The band sealed the set with “Spiritualize.” For the encore, Lotus fit a cover of Daft Punk’s “Da Funk” within original “MacGuffin.”
