Lord Huron Announces New Album ‘The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1’ & Shares Ethereal ‘Looking Back’ Single

Lord Huron confirmed a new album, The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, arriving July 18 through Mercury Records. Along with the LP announcement, the project led by Ben Schneider shared the third preview of the record, “Looking Back.”

Lord Huron previously released The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1 singles, “Who Laughs Last” featuring actress Kristen Stewart and “Nothing I Need.” Schneider co-produced the new album alongside contributions from band members Tom Renaud, Mark Barry and Miguel Briseño. Additional guests on Cosmic Selector Vol. 1 include Blonde Redhead’s Kazu Makino on “Fire Eternal.”

Lord Huron’s fifth album and follow up to 2021’s Long Lost sees Schneider continuing to muse upon the mystery of the universe. He shared some of the questions the new album examines.

“What if you could choose your fate like choosing a song on a jukebox? What if your finger slipped and you got the B-side instead? What if you misunderstood the meaning of the dang song to begin with?”

On the latest single and the album’s opening track, “Looking Back,” “Schneider’s voice glows over misty instrumentation: shuffling guitar, ethereal harp, and luminous cello,” as per a press release.

“The weight of your past can distort your present and future, the way massive celestial objects warp the fabric of the universe. Like a bowling ball on a trampoline,” Schneider said of the song’s theme. “This song wonders if it’s possible to let go, or if looking back is a fundamental law of existence.”
