Long Songs Spotify Playlist

Today marks the start of Memorial Day Weekend when we as a nation take a day to remember those members of the military that made the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives while in service to their country. Countless friends and families around the country will gather for picnics, concerts, parades and other festive events throughout the extended break. The long holiday weekend is considered by many to be the unofficial start to summer and to help soundtrack the days ahead, here’s a 35-track Spotify Playlist of long songs that can be spun all summer long.

The playlist presented this week only features songs that met two requirements. First, to be included the track had to be an in-studio recording – live cuts didn’t make the cut. And all of the songs in this collection clock in beyond the 10 minute mark. The result is more than eight hours of music across just 35 individual recordings.

Among the entries you’ll find Phish, Grateful Dead, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Fela Kuti, Traffic, Miles Davis, David Bowie, Jimi Hendrix, Can, James Brown, Television, Dire Straits and other favorites. There are also recordings by My Morning Jacket, MGMT, Cat Power, Wilco, Umphrey’s McGee, The Benevento/Russo Duo, Arcade Fire, Kurt Vile, Sufjan Steven, William Tyler and several more.
