Listen To Previously Unreleased Tom Petty Song ‘Gainesville’

A posthumous Tom Petty box set, An American Treasure, is due out on Reprise Records on September 28. Among the 60 tracks making up the collection is the previously unreleased single “Gainesville.”
Petty’s wife Dana Petty and daughter Adria Petty served as executive producers of the career-spanning An American Treasure. They worked with The Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, and Petty longtime collaborator Ryan Ulyate to prepare the box set which features “previously unreleased recordings, alternate versions of classic songs, rarities, historic live performances and deep tracks.”

Recorded in 1998 during the sessions for the 1999 album Echo and titled after Petty’s Florida hometown, listen to the previously unreleased “Gainesville” below:
