Lindsay Lou joined forces with Billy Strings on the new single “Freedom.” The track is featured on Lindsay Lou’s forthcoming EP, You Thought You Knew.

You Thought You Knew, which takes its title from a “Freedom” lyric, is due out on Friday, July 22. The EP was produced by Dave O’Donnell (James Taylor) and recorded at Forty-One Fifteen studios in East Nashville. “I pulled in some of my favourite new acoustic musicians in Nashville, all of whom are close friends that I’ve been running into at house parties and jams around town since I moved here from Michigan in 2015,” Lou explained to Holler of collaborators featured on the EP.

Read a note regarding the track posted by Lindsay on Facebook:

“hopefully one thing we can learn from these confusing times is that there’s more depth to the stories and lives impacted by the backwards laws being passed than anyone can imagine until you’re in it yourself or with someone you know. we wrote this song a while back, and it seems to hit in a new way when i listen now. i’m glad to have been able to record it duet style with Billy Strings, the way it sounded when we wrote it.”

Billy Strings originally recorded “Freedom” with his band for inclusion on his Grammy-winning 2019 album, Home. Lindsay Lou joined Strings and his group on the live debut of the song at the Hoxeyville Music Festival in Wellston, Michigan on August 19, 2018.
