Lettuce unveiled a new single entitled “Monorail 3000.” The cut, which pays tribute to the late James Brown, was recorded during the sessions that yielded the band’s stellar 2012 LP, Fly.
Signature sounds of “The Godfather Of Soul” are all over “Monorail 3000,” from the deep-in-pocket rhythm section, mesmerizing grooves and smooth horn arrangements. Longtime fans may recognize the song’s start as the sequence often used to introduce live performances of beloved staple “Blast Off.”

Drummer Adam Deitch initially dreamed up the concept and worked with saxophonist Ryan Zoidis to develop the song. “We were on a bus or van, and Deitch was recording and writing on his computer. He asked me to add a melody and bassline for the second section and handed me a keyboard,” Zoidis explained.
In 2012, Lettuce was one of the first acts to record at the newly opened Bunker Studios in Brooklyn. The sessions took place before co-founding guitarist Eric Krasno decided to focus on solo endeavors. With recording and mixing by John Davis and mastering by both Davis and Scott Hull, “Monorail 3000” pulls inspiration from a James Brown classic. “‘Monorail 3000’ is an homage to ‘J.B Monaurail,’ one of our favorite James Brown tracks. The vibe is cool and steady. All aboard!”
