Funk revivalists Lettuce welcomed a slew of guests and support acts for their second annual Rage Rocks concert at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, Colorado on Saturday night. An expanded version of the band was joined by Marcus King, Nate Werth, John Scofield, Ghostface Killah, Cyril Neville and George Porter Jr. at various points of their two set performance.
As per Live For Live Music’s detailed report, Lettuce’s first guest of the evening after opening sets from Turkuaz, The Russ Liquid Test and J Rocc was guitarist Marcus King. The South Carolina guitarist added to “Love Is Strong” before Lettuce was joined by Snarky Puppy percussionist Nate Werth for “Lettsanity” and famed jazz guitarist John Scofield for “Back In Effect” and “The Flu.” While Lettuce welcomed many guests over the course of the night, they were also aided by a number of family members including Eric Krasno, Ty Coomes, Bobby Deitch and Rashawn Ross.
The second set started off with Lettuce backing Wu-Tang Clan’s Ghostface Killah on “Requiem,” “Mighty Healthy,” “C.R.E.A.M.” and “Shimmy Shimmy Ya.” Later in the set Cyril Neville emerged for “Gossip” and also added to “I Need More Time” and The Meters’ “Africa,” both of which featured George Porter Jr. The closing stanza concluded with “Phyllis,” “Ziggawat” and “Squadlive” ahead of a “Sounds Like A Party To Me” encore.
