Lettuce established a scholarship fund in partnership with nonprofit organization Music is a Language to provide a full-tuition scholarship for a student attending Berklee College of Music. The renowned school in Boston is where the band’s members first met.
The scholarship will support young musicians from underserved communities who demonstrate exceptional talent and commitment. Lettuce will contribute $1 from every ticket sold on newly announced tour dates to fund the scholarship, beginning with House of Lett, intimate performances scheduled for December 5 and 6 in Denver at a location not yet revealed.
Tickets are on sale now. Each of the four shows will have fewer than 100 tickets available. The performances will be recorded live, and a portion of bar sales proceeds will contribute to the scholarship fund.
An All-You-Can-Lett Pass will grant access to all four shows, one year of free membership to LettuceLive.com partnered with nugs, wine tasting with the band, one bottle each of Lettuce’s signature wines, a signed COOK vinyl and recipe book, professional photos with the band, and a group photo posted to Lettuce’s social media.
Sean Skete, Dean of the Professional Performance Division at Berklee College of Music, said he first met Lettuce drummer Adam Deitch during Berklee’s 5-Week Summer Performance Program in summer 1992.
“The scholarship opportunity he is now offering is a beautiful full-circle moment,” Skete said. “It reflects not only his generosity but also his deep commitment to the next generation of artists.”
Lettuce bassist Erick “Maverick” Coomes said the band formed in the basement of dorm rooms at Berklee College of Music.
“When we each as high school students decided to enroll at the five-week summer program, our lives were unknowingly course corrected into an ensemble of true musical companionship and strong friendship,” Coomes said. “We are ecstatic to launch the Lettuce Scholarship.”
“We are excited for what the future holds and the opportunity to make a positive difference in this time of need,” said Robert Korn, Executive Director of Music is a Language.
