Leon Bridges and Khruangbin each performed on this past weekend’s Austin City Limits episode. The 54-minute broadcast featured six songs from Bridges followed by four tunes from fellow Texas-based act Khruangbin.
Fort Worth-based R&B artist and songwriter Leon Bridges began his second ACL appearance and first since 2016 with a performance of “Steam” from his recently released Gold-Diggers Sound album. Bridges kept the focus on Gold-Diggers Sound by leading his band through “Born Again,” “Motorbike,” “Blue Mesas” and “Sweeter.” Leon closed his set by looking back at 2018’s Good Thing for “Bad Bad News.”
Houston’s Khruangbin made their ACL debut with a career-spanning series of songs. Bassist Laura Lee, drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson and guitarist Mark Speer kicked off their part of the episode with live takes on “People Everywhere (Still Alive)” and “White Gloves” from 2015’s The Universe Smiles Upon You. The trio then performed Con Todo El Mundo standout “Friday Morning” before closing the broadcast with “First Class” off 2020’s Mordechai.
