Leon Bridges Covers Neil Young In Toronto

By Andy Kahn Mar 12, 2016 11:06 am PST

Soul singer Leon Bridges made a stop at Massey Hall in Toronto on Thursday evening. The Spring Tour performance north of the border featured a stirring cover performance of a song written by native Canadian Neil Young to open the night’s finale.

During the set, Bridges and his band that features vocalist Brittni Jessie and former White Denim guitarist Austin Jenkins showcased several songs from last year’s excellent Coming Home LP. The main set closed with the sentimental “The River” and the Canadian audience was then treated to Young’s “Helpless” to open the three-song encore.

Audience-shot footage from Massey Hall of the encore featuring “Helpless” followed by “Golden Room” > “Pussy Footin’” was captured by ShakyShorty and can be viewed below:

Bridges played the Chicago Theatre last night and again began the encore with “Helpless.” His tour continues tonight at Riverside Theater in Milwaukee.
