Leftover Salmon Shares ‘Southern Belle’ Official Video

On May 4, jamgrass pioneers Leftover Salmon will release Something Higher through their own LoS Records label. The band recently unveiled the official video for Something Higher track “Southern Belle.”

Leftover Salmon recruited longtime collaborator Steve Berlin of Los Lobos to produce the LP. “Southern Belle” was written by Jason Walter Yandle. Vocalist/guitarist Vince Herman heard a friend sing the song and decided it was a good fit for LoS. “The textures and space in the tune are part of our new sound and make a fine addition to what I think is an album of surprises,” Herman told Billboard about “Southern Belle.”

The “Southern Belle” video was shot in Southern Oregon and stars Kirk McKenzie and Danielle Kelly. Darren Campbell was tapped to direct. “For the video, there were some decisions to be made about how far to go into the increasing isolation of the character in the song,” Herman revealed to Billboard. “You have these expectations of beauty and then everything gets ugly. We contemplated for a long time how to frame this story. What is beauty? What is ugly? What’s driving this increasingly maddening behavior and the dissolution of communication in the relationship? We tossed it around enough that we got some kind of angle on it.”
