Led Zeppelin’s officially sanctioned documentary film will be titled Becoming Led Zeppelin. The Bernard MacMahon-directed project completed production, though a release date has not been set.

The at-the-time untitled Becoming Led Zeppelin was announced in May 2019. The film presents new interviews with Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones, as well as rare archival interviews with the late John Bonham.

Becoming Led Zeppelin is a film that no one thought could be made,” MacMahon stated (via Variety). “The band’s meteoric rise to stardom was swift and virtually undocumented. Through an intense search across the globe and years of restoration of the visual and audio archive found, this story is finally able to be told.”

MacMahon’s previous credits include directing the American Epic documentary series. The project explored the roots of American music, highlighting many of the Black blues musicians that influenced Led Zeppelin.

“When I saw everything Bernard had done both visually and sonically on the remarkable achievement that is American Epic,” Page said in 2019, “I knew he would be qualified to tell our story.”
