In March of 2012 longtime JamBase favorites New Monsoon lost their beloved friend and manager Gary Hartman unexpectedly. The band will present a two-night tribute to Hartman dubbed “GARYFEST 2” at the Last Concert Cafe in Houston on May 9 and 10.

For GARYFEST 2 New Monsoon will reunite with their original three-headed percussion crew of Rajiv Parikh, Marty Ylitalo and Brian Carey. The band will also be joined by special guests Dan “Lebo” Lebowitz of ALO and Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth.

New Monsoon has shared the following about their relationship with Hartman and GARYFEST 2:

Gary had a burning passion for live music, especially when played “without a net”. A lifelong Deadhead and live music taper/trader, he relished the unique nature of each show, and helped this music live on through recordings. As a live concert promoter and co-founder of Tapir Productions, he brought like-minded national touring acts to Houston. In doing so, he helped create a family of devoted music fans, who came to be known as the Texas Tribe, that flourished at an amazing venue called The Last Concert Café.

When New Monsoon hit the road for their first national tour in 2003, Gary was eager to give them a try. His life, along with that of the band, would never be the same. New Monsoon came to feel that Houston, and especially the Last Concert Café, was their home away from home. They’ve returned each year for two and three-night stands that have become the stuff of jamband legend. In 2008 Gary formally joined the band as their manager, while continuing to bring national touring acts to Houston.

The Café has been a destination for New Monsoon’s most ardent fans from around the nation for nearly a decade, and they’ll be back in Houston with the band for the second GARYFEST -two glorious nights to celebrate the life of their friend and mate, Gary Hartman.

Tickets for GARYFEST 2 are available via Eventbrite.
