Bad Bunny hosted the season 51 premiere episode of Saturday Night Live. The Puerto Rican musician/actor did not perform (Doja Cat was the musical guest) but singers behind the hit animated film, KPop Demon Hunters, made a surprise appearance and performed songs from the movie’s record-breaking soundtrack.
Since premiering weeks ago, KPop Demon Hunters quickly became the most popular Netflix film of all time, amassing over 236 million views to date. The KPop Demon Hunters soundtrack entered the Billboard 200 Albums chart Top 10. The soundtrack’s single, “Golden,” reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. The soundtrack is the first to simultaneously place four songs within the Hot 100 Top 10.
Singers Ejae, Audrey Nuna, and REI AMI, who portray the animated KPop Demon Hunters musical trio HUNTR/X, showed up on SNL during a sketch about brunch. The surprise appearance constituted the first live performance of “Golden,” as well as part of the fellow soundtrack hit single, “How It’s Done.”
SNL cast member Bowen Yang participated in the sketch as the KPop Demon Hunters character Jinu and performed the soundtrack song, “Soda Pop.”
