Multi-instrumentalist Kofi Burbridge of the Tedeschi Trucks Band has undergone emergency heart surgery in Atlanta. The Tedeschi Trucks Band has advised Kofi is beginning the earliest stages of recovery while surrounded by family, bandmates and friends.

“After undergoing emergency heart surgery yesterday in Atlanta, our brother Kofi Burbridge is now resting in the hospital and beginning the earliest stages of his recovery while surrounded by family, bandmates and friends. Our thoughts are with Kofi and we ask for privacy and patience for the moment until we have further updates to share about his condition,” reads the full note from the Tedeschi Trucks Band.

The 55-year-old keyboard and flautist came up through the ranks as a member of the Aquarium Rescue Unit with his brother Oteil. Kofi first joined forces with guitarist Derek Trucks as a member of The Derek Trucks Band. In 2010, Trucks recruited Kofi to be part of his burgeoning Tedeschi Trucks Band project and he’s been a staple of the group ever since. 2017 has been an extremely tough one for the extended Allman Brothers Band/ARU family as Butch Trucks, Col. Bruce Hampton and Gregg Allman have each died.

Please send good thoughts Kofi’s way.
