King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard released a new single, “Kepler-22b.” The song is set to land on the Melbourne, Australia-based band’s forthcoming double album, Omnium Gatherum, due out this Friday, April 22 through the group’s KGLW imprint.
King Gizzard announced Omnium Gatherum in early March and shared the 18-minute lead single “The Dripping Tap.” The band followed with “Magenta Mountain” later that month and now release “Kepler-22b,” named after an exoplanet that orbits in the habitable zone of a Sun-like star.

“Kepler-22b” sees King Gizzard sampling a song by Barney McAll titled “Yemaya One.” The band’s Cook Craig detailed recently discovering the fellow Melbourne artist:
I actually found Barney’s record at a store in New York. I hadn’t heard any of his stuff before, but remember putting it on and being blown away straight up. I remember thinking damn this is literally a sampler’s dream. It took me a while before I actually realized he was from Melbourne too. I guess it’s funny like that, sometimes you gotta travel halfway around the world to discover an inspiring piece of music made by someone who probably lives on the same block as you.
“Kepler-22b” arrived with a video directed by Alex McLaren featuring different animation styles. Watch it below:
