King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard Release New Single ‘O.N.E.’
The ever-prolific King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard couldn’t let the first month of the year come to an end without releasing their first new music of 2021. “O.N.E.” is out today accompanied by a particularly trippy video.
King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard tapped Alex McClaren to direct the “O.N.E.” video. “The song itself feels as if it’s constantly moving along so I tried to keep the visuals continually moving forward and sliding into different visual styles and landscapes,” McClaren explained of the clip shot remotely in Melbourne during the city’s second lockdown.
“I felt the mix of stop motion and collage through the use of found imagery and the band would help compliment the tracks lyrics and themes as I interpreted them, of dreams, nightmares, climate change, dystopias, and utopias, as well as referencing events that took place during the making of the video over 2020,” McClaren added. “All video of the band was shot by [multi-instrumentalist] Ambrose [Kenny-Smith] during the second lockdown restrictions and I had to give notes on shooting and direct remotely which was strange but so was everything during that period.”
While the Australia-based rockers are working on a new album, don’t expect a February release. “King Gizzard’s new album (y’all know what it’s called) is definitely not coming out in February,” the band’s Stu Mackenzie said in a statement. In the meantime, there’s “O.N.E.”
