King Crimson recently shared footage from the band’s September 29, 1982 performance at Munich’s Alabamahalle on YouTube. While the footage has long circulated amongst fans, the release marks the first time the video has been officially released.
This Munich performance marked the conclusion of King Crimson’s Beat tour, which supported their album of the same name and was filmed for the German television program Rochaus Den Alabamahalle. The lineup showcased the band’s 1980s configuration: Robert Fripp handling guitar duties, Bill Bruford behind the drums, Adrian Belew providing vocals and guitar and Tony Levin contributing Chapman stick, bass guitar, and vocal parts.

King Crimson opened the performance with Beat cut “Waiting Man.” The video also features “Neal And Jack And Me” and “Heart Beat” from the 1982 album. Additionally, 1981’s Discipline is well represented by “Matte Kudasai,” “Sheltering Sky” and “Indiscipline.”
While promotional materials on YouTube and the DGM website describe this as the complete concert, the 40-minute video actually omits several performances from that evening: “Thela Hun Ginjeet,” “Frame By Frame,” “Elephant Talk” and “Larks’ Tongues in Aspic, Part Two.” The complete performance can be found on the 2006 King Crimson Collectors’ Club CD release Live in Munich, 1982, which was later made available digitally in 2012.
King Crimson’s ’80s era has been in the spotlight of late as Belew and Levin formed the new project BEAT along with acclaimed guitarist Steve Vai and Tool drummer Danny Carey. BEAT recently wrapped their debut tour in which they performed material from King Crimson’s 1980s albums Three Of A Perfect Pair, Discipline and Beat at venues across North America.
