A few months back guitarist Steve Kimock mentioned new music from his KIMOCK project was on the way. KIMOCK featuring the guitarist joined by drummer John Kimock along with bassist Bobby Vega and multi-instrumentalist Leslie Mendelson have stayed true to Steve’s word by releasing two new singles.

KIMOCK recorded an album due in fall at Bob Weir’s TRI Studios. Widespread Panic bassist Dave Schools was tapped to produce the new music from KIMOCK. The first singles off the as-of-yet untitled album are “Sagan” and “Variation.” Both tracks can be downloaded for free by members of the Kimock mailing list. Videos containing samples of each tune can be viewed below.

Up first is “Variation.” Schools said it’s “where Steve Kimock takes you around the world with his deft orchestration of panglobal stringed instruments and Leslie Mendelson’s vocals take you places. And again, it’s all done within the safety zone of five musicians in a circle playing music together.” Watch the video for “Variation” showing KIMOCK recording the tune:

Next is “Sagan” which includes the voice of visionary astrophysicist Carl Sagan. “It’s an exemplary and daring experiment that takes real musicians interacting, aided and abetted by modern day processes in electronic music. It’s very 21st century, yet it never loses sight of five people sitting in a room in a circle interacting musically…which is very rare,” said Schools. Watch the animated video for “Sagan”:
