Khruangbin returned to The Bowery Ballroom in New York City, a venue they first played in 2016, to perform the first concert of a three-night run on Wednesday. The show was the trio’s first public performance since 2022.
Talking Heads frontman David Byrne kicked the night off with a DJ set. Bassist Laura Lee Ochoa, drummer Donald “DJ” Johnson Jr. and guitarist Mark “Marko” Speer then took the stage and offered an opening first set comprised of songs from previously released albums, 2020’s Mordechai, 2018’s Con Todo el Mundo, 2015’s The Universe Smiles Upon You and their 2014 EP The Infamous Bill.

Khruangbin followed with a second set made up of the live debuts of all 12 songs on the forthcoming A La Sala. The performance mirrored the album’s tracklist, presenting the songs in order from the opening track “Fifteen Fifty‐Three” through the closer “Les Petits Gris.” Previously released singles, “Pon Pón,” “May Ninth” and “A Love International,” were among the songs making their live debuts.
Khruangbin’s sold-out run at The Bowery continues tonight and tomorrow.
