By Andy Kahn Sep 4, 2019 • 12:18 pm PDT

Kevin Morby and William Tyler honored David Berman by covering a Silver Jews song last night. The collaboration took place at WFMU’s Monty Hall in Jersey City, New Jersey.
Morby and Tyler are currently out on a joint tour with Tyler performing solo sets and Morby performing while accompanied by saxophonist Cochemea Gastelum. Berman died by suicide last month at the age of 52. In July, Berman released the self-titled debut Purple Mountains album, his first new material in a decade that was recorded with members of Morby’s former band Woods. Berman recruited Tyler in 2001 to join Silver Jews with whom the guitarist served a stint as one of the group’s many members.
