Kevin Morby made his late-night television debut last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live. The singer-songwriter led a big band featuring backup singers from the Stax Academy of Music through “This Is A Photograph” on the episode proper and also played “Beautiful Strangers” as a web exclusive.
“This Is A Photograph” is the title track from Morby’s recently released studio album. The 12-song follow-up to 2020’s Sundowner was recorded with producer and frequent collaborator Sam Cohen at sessions held both at Cohen’s Upstate New York studio and at the historic Sam Phillips’ Recording Co. in Memphis. Kevin was introduced by guest host Sean Hayes.
Kevin Morby originally issued “Beautiful Strangers” in 2016. Proceeds from the song protesting gun violence penned following mass shootings in Paris and Orlando went to Everytown For Gun Safety. A link to donate to the Everytown For Gun Safety Support Fund accompanies the “Beautiful Strangers” web exclusive Kimmel performance video on YouTube.
