Keith Richards & Sheryl Crow To Take Part In All-Star Merle Haggard Tribute
By Scott Bernstein Mar 30, 2017 • 12:28 pm PDT

Next week, an all-star lineup will come together to honor the late, legendary outlaw country musician Merle Haggard. The Sing Me Back Home: The Music Of Merle Haggard will take place at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville and Rolling Stone broke the news Keith Richards and Sheryl Crow will be among those honoring Merle on April 6.
“When Merle broke through, he was akin to Johnny Cash in the starkness of the sound. But it was more melodic. You felt like this guy knew shit. There was a wisdom in it,” Richards told Rolling Stone as part of a remembrance last year. “I still sing and play ‘Sing Me Back Home’ on the piano. That’s my party piece, baby. It’s just so real, so touching. There’s a guy on death row. You know when this song finishes, it’s all over. That’s it, pal.”
Keith Richards and Sheryl Crow join a lineup that already included Haggard’s friend and collaborator Willie Nelson, as well as The Avett Brothers, Warren Haynes, Loretta Lynn, Alison Krauss, Jamey Johnson, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Lucinda Williams and Merle’s son Ben Haggard, among others.
Keith Wortman, Mark Rothbaum and Merle’s widow Theresa Haggard will serve as executive producers of the concert. Wortman previously produced events honoring the likes of Jerry Garcia, Johnny Cash, Emmylou Harris, Gregg Allman and Levon Helm. Don Was, Ben Haggard and Buddy Cannon have been tapped as Sing Me Back Home music directors and will lead the house band backing the all-star lineup of musicians.
Tickets are on sale now via Ticketmaster.
