By Andy Kahn Jun 25, 2018 • 10:12 am PDT

Kamasi Washington brought his band to The Village recording facility in Los Angeles for an appearance on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic. The saxophonist led the ensemble on performances of a pair of songs from Washington’s newly released album Heaven And Earth.
Washington issued the 16-track double LP Heaven And Earth last Friday via Young Turks. The sophomore full length follows-up Washington’s 2015 debut triple LP The Epic and the 2017 EP Harmony of Difference. The Los Angeles native recorded Heaven And Earth in his hometown at Henson Studios.
Washington’s entire Morning Becomes Eclectic episode is available here. Backed by his supporting cast The Next Step — Kamasi’s father Rickey Washington (flute), as well as Dontae Winslow (trumpet), Brandon Coleman (keyboards), Cameron Graves (piano), Miles Mosley (upright bass), Robert Miller (drums), Ronald Bruner Jr. (drums) and Patrice Quinn (vocals) — watch “Street Fighter Mas” and “The Space Travelers Lullaby” via KCRW below:
