Saxophonist Kamasi Washington is joined by André 3000 on “Dream State,” a sprawling instrumental that spans nearly nine minutes. The song is the third advance single from Washington’s upcoming album, Fearless Movement, which is due out on May 3 via Young.
Washington described “Dream State” in a statement as “a celebration of life and the opportunity it gives us to explore new possibilities.” He added, “We created this song together instantaneously as we improvised off the music we made in the moment. It was such an honor to work on this song with one of my heroes, the great André 3000. And what an amazing experience André 3000, Brandon Coleman, Tony Austin, Mono/Poly and I had gliding freely through this world of sound not knowing where we would end up, but joyful in the journey itself.”

André 3000 first showed off his new fascination with the flute late last year on his excellent debut solo album, New Blue Sun. The Outkast co-founder resumes a tour in support of the LP on April 26 in Pioneertown, California.
“When you receive a text from a wind friend something beautiful usually transpires,” noted 3000. “The day Kamasi invited me to a session for Fearless Movement I was so geeked and honored. Now, every time we get together something interesting happens. We first played during a recording session for New Blue Sun and it’s been fruitful ever since.”
Kamasi Washington brought in several other collaborators for the 12-track follow-up to Heaven and Earth besides André 3000 including George Clinton, Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Patrice Quinn, Brandon Coleman, D-Smoke, Taj, Ras Austin and his daughter. Washington will hit the road in support of a record he refers to in spirit as “his dance album” from May 4 – July 16.
