Pianist Julius Rodriguez recently made his Tiny Desk Concert debut. Rodriguez performed songs from his new album, Evergreen, and more.

Evergreen arrived on June 14 via Verve Records. The young piano virtuoso and his band — drummer Brian Richburg Jr., bassist Philip Norris, trumpeter Alonzo Demetrius and saxophonist Chris Lewis — launched the Tiny Desk session with Evergreen’s “Run To It (The CP Song).”

“Rodriguez follows with the uplifting ‘Around The World,’” NPR’s Ashley Pointer wrote of the performance, “as he shows off his chops in a dizzying whirl of solos that transition seamlessly into a moving tribute, ‘Elegy (For Cam),’ dedicated to the late actor Cameron Boyce, and then into the lush and soulful ‘Love Everlasting.’”

“I’m not a big words guy,” Rodriguez said as he neared the end of the performance, “but I will say that being here is such an honor and a dream come true. I’m very glad to have some of my best friends and the greatest musicians in the world with me.”

Julius wrapped his Tiny Desk debut with a cut, “Gift Of The Moon,” off his 2022 debut LP, Let Sound Tell All. Watch Julius Rodriguez’s Tiny Desk Concert below:
