Guitarist Julian Lynch revealed he will leave Real Estate at the end of their current tour. Lynch became part of the band in 2016, stepping in after co-founding guitarist was dismissed from the group amid sexual misconduct allegations.
Julian Lynch announced the news on Instagram via a statement shared jointly by the band. Lynch wrote the following of his decision:
I’m so grateful to have been able to spend most of the last decade creating, performing, and traveling with my friends in the band Real Estate. Next week’s brief leg of touring with Tennis will hold special significance for me, since these will be my final shows with the band before I move onto other things. Thank you to my bandmates for sharing these experiences with me. Thanks also to Real Estate’s welcoming fans and to all of the kind and talented people I’ve been able to meet or work with along the way. Looking forward to seeing some of you at the shows next week 🙂
As Lynch mentioned, Real Estate will team with Tennis for a series of three shows that begins tonight (August 26) in Denver. Julian Lynch’s final appearance with Real Estate will take place at Seattle’s Bumbershoot festival this Sunday, August 31.
2017’s In Mind was the first Real Estate album to feature Julian Lynch, who grew up with several members of the band in Ridgewood, New Jersey. Lynch also contributed to 2020 LP The Main Thing and 2024 full-length Daniel as well as the 2021 EP Half A Human.
Real Estate starts their next chapter next month when they embark on a tour celebrating their 2014 album Atlas. Dates are spread across the U.S. and Canada in September and October.
