While the possibility Phish will one day be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame is far from a sure thing, we’re glad to see that at least one organization recognizes the accomplishments of the band’s drummer –Jon Fishman. Syracuse.com’s Chris Baker reports that Fishman will be awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of this year’s Syracuse Area Music Awards, aka The SAMMYs.

The Syracuse native will receive the award at a Hall of Fame ceremony at Dinosaur Bar-B-Que on March 5. Syracuse.com notes that “Fishman’s award marks the first time since 2010 that the Lifetime Achievement honor has gone to a living individual artist.” Ronnie James Dio, Jimmy Van Heusen and the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra are among recent recipients of the award.

Fishman’s Syracuse days are usually a topic of stage banter when Phish plays the area, none more so than at a show at Vernon Downs on August 12, 1998 in which Trey told a few stories from the drummer’s high school days.

More details on The SAMMYs, including ticketing details, are available here.
