Jon Batiste shared a new single, “I Need You.” The song will land on the acclaimed pianist and Late Show bandleader’s upcoming album, We Are, due out on March 19 through Verve Records.

We Are follows Jon Batiste’s Grammy-nominated album Meditations, a collaborative work with guitarist Cory Wong. Batiste heralded We Are in June 2020 with the title track which came amid Jon organizing protests in New York City. We Are saw Batiste working with songwriter Autumn Rowe and producer Kizzo along with contributions from Mavis Staples, Quincy Jones, Zadie Smith, PJ Morton, Trombone Shorty, St Augustine Marching 100, his father Michael Batiste, grandfather David Gauthier and more. Batiste found time to make the album in between work on the film Soul and recorded it in New York, Los Angeles and his native New Orleans.

“We Are is a message of love for humanity, of humble reverence for our past, and of a hopeful future, in which we are the ones who can save us,” Batiste said of the album in a statement. “The art reveals its motive to you. You just have to wait for the Spirit to tell you what it wants.”

Batiste also spoke about the new single, “I Need You.” “This song is a vibe cleanse. After 2020, this is like a warm hug. Let’s bring the vibes back!”

“I Need You” arrived with an accompanying music video starring Batiste himself and featuring choreography from the Emmy-nominated Jemel McWilliams and direction from Alan Ferguson. Watch it below:
