Last night Tedeschi Trucks Band began the second weekend of their Beacon Theatre residency playing a show in which they welcomed a surprise special guest to the NewYork City stage. Recently debuted band leader for The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, New Orleans musician Jon Batiste joined TTB for a number of songs during the headliner’s performance.

The night at the Beacon began with a set by opening act Scrapomatic before the 11-piece Tedeschi Trucks Band took over. About halfway into their main set Derek and Susan brought out Batiste to assist keyboardist Kofi Burbridge on “Bound For Glory” and “Don’t Think Twice.” After TTB finished the second half of their set which concluded with The Beatles “With a Little Help from My Friends,” the Late Show band leader returned during the encore to augment a Sly & The Family Stone medley that the band debuted earlier this year.

Tedeschi Trucks Band plays the last of their Beacon Theatre residency concerts tonight and the opener-less show will include two full sets from the ensemble.
