Exceptional guitarist and beloved musician Johnny Downer passed away Monday at the age of 37 due to heart complications.

Downer was best known for his lead guitar and vocals as a member of Northern California bluegrass/folk/jazz outfit, Free Peoples. Downer also played with Top Four Flights, New Clear Vision, and Point Being.

A friend and compatriot to many, Downer was admired for his selflessness, kindness, and stellar guitar skills.

There will be a Johnny Downer Memorial Concert held Saturday January 9, 2010 at Hopmonk Tavern in Sebastopol, CA. The event will start at 4:00 p.m. and go until closing time. See hopmonk.com for details.
