Osiris podcast The Tapes Archive premiered a never-before-published interview with John Prine from 1997. While John Prine died yesterday, The Tapes Archive planned to release audio of the interview today before the news of his passing was announced.
The interview took place between John Prine and journalist Marc Allan in 1997 while Prine was on tour with Los Lobos. Prine was at an airport in Alberta when he phoned Allan. The legendary singer-songwriter, who was 50 at the time, discussed a number of topics including his Oh Boy Records label, the message in his songs, connections to John Mellencamp and Indiana, an LP of duets he had in the works (which turned out to be 1999’s In Spite Of Ourselves), spending time on the road and more.
