John Prine’s Final ‘Austin City Limits’ Appearance To Be Re-Broadcast

Austin City Limits will re-broadcast John Prine’s final performance on the famed music program. The re-airing will take place on Saturday, April 18 at 8 p.m. CT/9 p.m. ET.

Prine made his Austin City Limits debut during Season 3 in 1978. The lauded singer-songwriter would make seven more appearances on the program over the next forty years. His final ACL performance came as part of Season 44 in 2018 and featured a career-spanning set including songs from his 2018 album The Tree Of Forgiveness, Prine’s highest-charting album in his legendary career, as well as a guest appearance from singer-songwriter and Prine disciple Tyler Childers. Prine died on April 7 from complications due to COVID-19.

“This one really hurts, like a dagger to the heart,” ACL executive producer Terry Lickona said in a statement. “John Prine was so integral to the essence of Austin City Limits, and few artists graced the ACL stage over the years and decades more than he did. The last time I saw him and his sweet wife Fiona was at this year’s Grammy Awards for his Lifetime Achievement Award, and he was as charming and self-effacing as usual, brushing off all the fuss. He leaves a void that no one else can fill.”
