John Moreland shared a live video of his song “Gentle Violence.” The performance is from the Tulsa-based singer-songwriter’s recent concert at Oklahoma City’s Tower Theatre.
“Gentle Violence” appears on Moreland’s new album, Visitor, which he surprise released on April 5 via Old Omens/Thirty Tigers. The album saw John going off grid, isolating himself at his home in the Tulsa suburb of Bixby, Oklahoma where he went six months without a smartphone and did not tour. He performed nearly every instrument on the folk-rock record.

Moreland returned to the road in late 2023 and into 2024. On May 3, John delivered a home state show at Oklahoma City’s Tower Theatre where he captured the performance of Visitor’s “Gentle Violence.”
“‘Gentle Violence’ is a song about a strained relationship with a loved one, in the hyper-political post-pandemic USA,” Moreland said of the song. “The tension and sorrow around the tough relationship are a microcosm of the tension and sorrow we feel as citizens of this broken world.”
