All has been quiet from guitarist John Mayer for the most part since Dead & Company ended their summer tour in July and he played a series of benefits in August. Mayer recently took to Instagram to weigh on what’s next and revealed he’s focusing on creating new music in the studio.
“Hello from the studio… I know it’s been a while since I’ve updated you on what’s next, and since many of you have asked when the next leg of touring is, I thought I’d share my thoughts and intentions for the future,” Mayer wrote. “I love touring and will continue to play live shows, but in staying open to what’s driving me creatively, it felt like making more music was the most inspired feeling I had,” the guitarist added. “I know the Sob Rock tour was only in the US, and though I will make it to other cities and countries in the future, I’ve just got more songs to make.”
“I’m having the time of my life writing and recording, and it won’t be long before I share some very exciting news about some new projects,” Mayer noted. While the 45-year-old musician doesn’t appear to be adding any solo dates soon, he will reunite with Dead & Company next year for their Playing In The Sand 2023 destination event in Mexico and “The Final Tour” over the summer.
John Mayer’s latest album, Sob Rock, was released in July of 2021. Check out his Instagram post from the studio shared on Monday below:
