John Mayer Plays Emotional Tribute To Jerry Garcia At End Of Phoenix Concert
By Scott Bernstein Aug 3, 2017 • 7:00 am PDT

John Mayer has ended each show of his The Search For Everything Tour by sitting down at a piano and delivering a solo piano rendition of “You’re Gonna Live Forever In Me” off his recently released album. Mayer called an audible on Tuesday night in Phoenix as he instead honored what would have been Jerry Garcia’s 75th birthday had the Grateful Dead guitarist not tragically died in 1995.
The rest of John’s show at Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix on Tuesday stuck to a similar gameplan to other tour stops. Up first was a full band segment followed by an acoustic interlude, John Mayer Trio section and full band reprise. After an initial encore of “Born & Raised” and “Gravity,” Mayer returned to the stage by himself. The Dead & Company guitarist sat down at the piano and banged out a beautiful version of “Friend Of The Devil.” Mayer thanked the crowd as “Ripple” played over the P.A.
