John Lennon’s never-before-seen home movies are featured in a video for a new mix of John’s “Aisumasen (I’m Sorry).” The Ultimate Mix of the 1973 song is set to land on the forthcoming Mind Games – The Ultimate Collection due out on July 12 through Capitol/UMe.
The video for “Aisumasen (I’m Sorry)” (Ultimate Mix) features footage shot in 1973 just after John and Yoko Ono moved into their famed residence at the Dakota in New York City.
“Aisumasen (I’m Sorry)” originally appeared on John’s fourth solo album, Mind Games. The LP was recorded during a tumultuous time for the Lennons and the world. Yoko’s daughter Kyoko had been kidnapped by her father Tony Cox. John was fighting deportation and being surveiled by the F.B.I. for his anti-war activism during the Vietnam War.

Produced by John and Yoko’s son Sean Ono Lennon, the fresh mix of “Aisumasen,” the Japanese word for “I’m sorry,” features a new guitar solo from David Spinozza who played on the original alongside John’s ace band of Gordon Edwards (bass), Jim Keltner (drums), Ken Ascher (piano, organs), and “Sneaky” Pete Kleinlow (pedal steel guitar).
John used a Sony Portapak camera and reel-to-reel recorder to capture the footage featured in the new video. John films himself in a mirror in the bedroom, Yoko fielding interviews on the phone for her Approximately Infinite Universe album, various perspectives from around the Dakota, shots out of the windows and more.
