Contempory reggae band John Brown’s Body announced they will return to the stage to play “select dates” throughout 2024 focusing on material from their classic 1995 – 2006 era. While news on when and where the shows will take place is forthcoming, the group detailed its updated lineup.
Vocalist/guitarist Kevin Kinsella will direct the band he co-founded in 1995. The rhythm section will consist of original member Tommy Benedetti on drums and Nate Edgar, who held down the bottom end for JBB from 2006 – 2015, on bass. The seven-piece lineup also features original member Lee Hamilton on tenor saxophone, keyboardist Jon “JP” Petronzio, trombonist TJ Schaper as well as longtime extended JBB family member guitarist Van Gordon Martin.

Former frontman Elliot Martin will not participate in the band’s latest iteration but “has given his full endorsement and support to all involved,” as per the announcement from John Brown’s Body. The lineup played a few shows in and around the band’s hometown of Ithaca, New York as “OG JBB” last year following a 2022 set at the Big Mean BBQ. The experience “left us wanting more. So we can’t wait to bring that one of a kind, JBB sound and experience back to the stage,”the group added. “The torch has been re-lit.”
Kevin Kinsella penned many of the songs John Brown’s Body plans to perform in 2024. Kinsella was aboard for the band’s first five albums ahead of his departure in 2006. JBB’s debut record, All Time, was released in 1996. The group followed with Among Them in 1998, This Day in 2000, Spirits All Around Us in 2002 and Pressure Points in 2005.
The first show announcement is due out “soon” as per John Brown’s Body.
