Joe Russo’s Almost Dead Honors Dr. John At Bonnaroo

By Scott Bernstein Jun 17, 2019 8:06 am PDT

Joe Russo’s Almost Dead performed a late night set at Bonnaroo on Saturday that ended with a tribute to the late Dr. John. Marco Benevento led his mates through Mac’s “Such A Night” to bring JRAD’s set to a close at the event in Manchester, Tennessee.

Bonnaroo takes its name from Dr. John’s 1974 album Desitively Bonnaroo. JRAD first performed “Such A Night” from the good doctor’s 1973 LP In The Right Place in 2015 and have gone on to cover the song a handful of times since. Joe Russo’s Almost Dead’s set came in That Tent between 1 a.m. – 3:15 a.m. The five-piece jammed on such Grateful Dead repertoire classics as “St. Stephen,” “Mama Tried,” “Help On The Way,” “Throwing Stones,” “Playing In The Band” and “Terrapin Station” before ending the marathon performance with “Samson & Delilah” and “Such A Night.”
